Family Camp for 2008?
Whilst Scouts are still celebrating their 90th year at Basford, we have talked for some time about a family camp. So we need a big plug for it.
It seems that purely
by accident that Basford is returning to its roots of frequent camping, service
crew for Barnswood and now seems the time to reintroduce the family camp.
This is the only means for not only all of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to get
together but, also the leaders and the parents.
The camp will be run by the leaders for the benefit of the sections. We will
attempt to provide a wide range of activities which the parents can also participate
in- or not as the case may be. The parents can stand back and watch. They can
bring their own, children under 16, who are not part of the Basford Group to
the camp. The members of the section will be accommodated separately to the
other members of their family and will meet up during the camp if and when they
wish. The food will be cooked for the entire camp by volunteers from the group.
The most the parents will have to do is help clear the plates at meal times
and brush the dining area floor and even this will be on rota. It's like a grass
roots hotel with the children's entertainment already sorted out. There will
even be help with your accommodation, we'll help you get your tent up.
There must be down sides.
Tiny ones.
To enable us to do this camp, all adults must be cleared by the Criminal Records
Board, to be safe with children. This CRB check will be free of charge but,
must be done NOW. These checks are notorious for taking some time.
In order for the camp to be a success, we must have an estimate of the numbers
interested. We have no date yet but, is likely to be October this year. Replies
of interest from sufficient numbers will enable us to estimate what kind of
events that we can put on and how fantastic the food will be. Use the e-mail
link on this page to give your support. Don't forget to include the name of
your child and which section he/she is in and the number of adults and children
going from your address.
Thanks for reading.
