Hike to Sherrats Wood 26th, 27th and 28th October 07
We all gathered at the Winghouse car park at 3:30pm, and got our newest scout invested, went over some quick rules, and set off, bursting with energy, rearing to go! After what felt like ages, we all finally stopped for a short break, and had a couple of snacks, just to keep the energy up! When we had just got to the other side of stone, we hit a very, very steep bank. But thankfully, when we got to the top, we had a nice 15 min break!
At around 6:00pm it started getting dark, so Bob told us all to turn on our headtorches in flashing mode. On the last bit towards camp, (it had to be a steep hill didn't it!) we came across a dead badger, a dead bird and even a squashed hedgehog! Finally, when we reached the top of that dreaded hill, we got to camp and were greeted by a few non hikers and Laura.
We had a drink then got up our tents as quickly as possible, so we could get all of our stuff unpacked, ready to sit down to some well earned tea and biscuits.
Of course when we all went to bed that night, as soon as our heads touched the pillow, we were straight into a very deep sleep. Not long after we hit the hay, the leaders gave up and got tucked up nice and warm in their sleeping bags too!
On saturday morning, Bob came around and violently shook all of our tents, to wake us all up, and to tell us to get dressed and to have a shower. Well, as we protested against it until later on, he said that the hot water was on. So, of couse we all gave in and went and had a shower, only to find that the hot water had not kicked in yet, and to get drowned by a freezing cold sea of water! After we had got over that and had breakfast, we got ready for the hike around stone.
So, we hiked all the way to the nearest bus stop, only to find that it was no longer on route! So, in the end while we waited for laura to pick us up, Bob invented some cool games to keep us going!
